It's official!
The First Annual Blissworks Barn Sale finally happened!
It was a perfect December day: 58 degrees and sunny on December 13th.
State Street courtyard, 400 State Street, Greensboro, NC 27408 was the location and everyone had a great time.
We had live music, artists and quite a few visitors.
The entire basis of this event was to set the precedent for hopefully many more sales to come.
For far too long, artists have been trying to break into the "cliques" of the art scene. Whether it's a mountain of paperwork where your "criteria" have to be outlined in triplicate, or you have to have everything professionally framed, or there's an exorbitant entry fee, promotion as an artist isn't for the faint of heart.
I know from personal experience, the heartbreak of a
"failed show," the failure to follow "specific guidelines,"
and even rejection from shows, where quite frankly...
if I saw one more landscape or beaded necklace...sigh.
However, the Blissworks Sales are not like the typical shows of the "art scene." Like most artists, I am actually wanting to make a profit at the end of the day. There has to be heart at the center of it all.
Proverbs 18:16 says: "A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before the great."
I know we've been given gifts. Whether it's a watercolor, or a repurposed bench, art is that amazing gift that more should be able to express without fear of the "clique," or of hoping to sell 1/3 of your items just to break even.
No,"following our bliss" should have purpose and that is exactly what will happen with future Barn Sales. Our amazing artists have a real talent, but also a real desire to touch their community.
Several of our artists, made donations to "Single Parent Santa," an outreach sponsored by Hisworks Ministries in Greensboro, NC that gives Christmas presents to single moms.
The Blissworks Barn Sale....a new day is coming art world. Let's do this!
